2010 Gala Auction Items
Live Auction
Under the direction of the art teacher, Mrs. Stevens, and the teachers of GSMS, the students have created these unique works of art. Each and every child has contributed in the creation process. The pieces of art created by the children that will be in the live auction will be determined closer to the event date. Please check the GSMS website for updates. In addition to the wonderful classroom art, we also have unique opportunities for children to spend a day with a community leader. For the parents, enjoy a special dinner with friends or a getaway trip.

Day with a Leader: A Day With the Mayor of McKinney
A truly unique opportunity for a child to spend the day with the Mayor of McKinney, Brian Loughmiller. Part of the day will include attending a council meeting, interviewing the mayor, gaining an understanding of what being the mayor involves at the local, state and national level, how a city decision is made and what it is like to be the “boss” of a city. A highlight of the day will be when Mayor Loughmiller declares proclamation for the day dedicated to the child.

Your child will understand the need of Samaritan Inn and all the components needed to make the organization work. The day will be tailored to the child.

Weeda Hamdan
Weeda’s paintings are a celebration of color and texture. She paints with short and thick strokes resulting in layers of color till the surface murmurs, making the subject come alive. Through color, light and composition even the most common places can become uncommon and much more than their parts.

Born in Liberia, she lived in Las Palmas de Gran Canaries, Spain and Lebanon with her parents and siblings as a child. The mix of cultures and traditions from each country are a major influence on her design and art.
Her vocation for painting began at the early age of 10, and her talent was first recognized by family, friends, and classmates. In 1988, she attended Lebanese American University majoring in Graphic Design and taking painting classes as electives and in her spare time. An entrepreneur at heart, She started a graphic agency at age of 21 handling major local and global accounts. While involved in her active career, she kept taking painting lessons for years at night with renowned artist, Helen Karam.

In 2000 she settled permanently in Texas, which she calls home with her husband and two young daughters. Having worked and won awards for major corporations, she decided to combine her extensive experience in commercial art with her love for painting. In 2005, she decided to pursue her Masters in Painting and Drawing through Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Her perseverance on this new path has led Weeda to successfully exhibit in many corporations, collective and solo shows, nationally and internationally. Her art is admired by numerous, and private collectors worldwide.
Major influences on her work are the Fauvists and German Expressionism eras, and artists such as Van Gogh, Mary Cassett, Kevin Mcpherson and Jason Bowen.

Weeda believes in giving back by helping and enriching the lives of youth through art appreciation and art exploration. She has been actively volunteering in teaching children to use art as a form of expression.

There are two paintings for auction:
Reflection in the Lake, a mixed media; acrylic and oil on panel, 16x20". Reflection in the Lake is a mirror of autumn trees and the contrasting sky merging together onto one surface.  The play of the warm trees looking into the water with the cool lightening sky easing through is what inspired Weeda to magnify this spot in the lake.
Dawn of Blues, a mixed media: acrylic and oil on panel, 16x20". Dawn of Blues is a dialogue between the early light and the long anticipation of tree-etched water. The shy spark of light gently and progressively breaking the waters darkness is what captivated Weeda.
Value: $1200 per painting
